Evaluate thyroid values
When it comes to thyroid values, it is often said that they are, or should be, in a certain third. This means a third of the reference range, either the lower, middle or upper third. To determine in which third your measured blood values are, they must be converted into percentages.
To do this, calculate the respective thyroid value minus the lower reference value and then divide the result by the difference between the upper and lower reference values. The result is then multiplied by 100 to obtain the percentage value. The unit of the measured values does not matter, since the measured value and the values of the reference range should have the same unit.
If the result is then less than 33.33% the value is in the lower third, if the result is greater than 33.33% but less than 66.66% the value is in the middle third, and anything above 66.66% is in the upper third of the reference range.
